Mitsubishi ASX is ready to tackle European roads with some updates that slavishly follow those of the recently unveiled Renault Captur MY 2024 with which it shares everything apart from the front grille. A model whose restyling puts the emphasis on a redesigned look, especially at the front, where the Dynamic Shield that characterises Mitsubishi models is present, and the high level of on-board technology and connectivity. The ASX belongs to the B-Suv segment and will be produced as part of the Renault Nissan alliance at the Renault-owned Valladolid plant in Spain, with production starting in May 2024 and launch in the Italian market scheduled for late June 2024.

Sporty and distinctive style

.

Developed for Europe and based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's Cmf-B platform, the restyled ASX shows a design that fully incorporates Mitsubishi Motors' distinctive 'Dynamic Shield' front end, giving it a confident, robust and dynamic appearance, features also found in its Captur twin.

The vehicle's side profile combines a flowing silhouette with wide, high shoulders, a confident ride enhanced by a choice of 17" or 18" rims.

Finally, the rear completes the sporty versatility of the design: the lights are, like the front headlights, completely LED. Both the ASX name and the 'Mitsubishi' lettering are evident on the Japanese manufacturer's new model.

Inside connectivity

Inside the cabin, there is a striking change in connectivity that now offers greater control of the vehicle and unprecedented integration. In fact, the new ASX features a large 10.4-inch high-resolution portrait screen from which to access the Android Automotive system with Google services (integrated but it is unclear on which versions) and the My Mitsubishi Motors app, which allows users to access real-time diagnostics remote operations and vehicle search functionality, among other features.

The integration of a full suite of connected services is reinforced by the introduction of the My Mitsubishi Motors mobile app, which offers relevant information and remote services in an easy-to-use app available on the App Store and Google Play. New apps, features and updates will be rolled out continuously, including remote OTA (Over The Air) software to enhance the infotainment experience. Finally, the driver can rely on the 7-inch digital dashboard or the 10-inch digital driver display. All as on the new version of Caputr, of course

Motor range: two electrified solutions

The engine range includes the innovative 1.0-litre MPI-T three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This delivers 67 kW of power and 160 Nm of torque. Its ability to deliver performance in any scenario is backed up by its efficiency, returning 5.7 litres/100 km and emitting only 130 g/km of CO2.

Electrification, then, is a mainstay of the European market and the New ASX satisfies customers wanting more efficient performance, so there are two electrified versions: the Hybrid (HEV) and the Mild Hybrid.

In the first case, the technology combines a 1.6-litre petrol unit with two electric motors and a multi-mode automatic transmission. The 105 kW unit offers the perfect balance of performance and efficiency thanks to the electric assist, which provides a total range of 900 km. Emissions are only 104 g/km CO2, while the official fuel efficiency figures are only 4.6 litres/100 km based on the official test cycle.

While in the second case, it is a 1.3-litre turbocharged and direct-injected petrol engine integrated with a mild hybrid system that uses a belt-driven starter generator coupled with a 12 V lithium battery, allowing energy recovery during deceleration and braking, and electric torque assistance. The system can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (7DCT). The engine delivers 103 kW/260 Nm with the manual transmission or 116 kW/270 Nm with the 7DCT. Fuel efficiency and emissions are 5.7 litres/100 km and 130 g/km CO2 and 5.8 litres/100 km and 132 g/km CO2 respectively.

Active safety and driver assistance systems

The ASX is equipped with ultrasonic sensors, radar and a camera to create clear and accurate images of its surroundings. Available as standard on all models, it includes: forward collision mitigation system with pedestrian protection, automatic high beam, cruise control with speed limiter, driver attention monitor, intelligent speed assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and lane keeping assist, parking sensors and rear view camera.

Finally, in the high-end automatic variants, the New ASX also features the Mi-Pilot (Mitsubishi Intelligent - Pilot) system, which combines Adaptive Cruise Control (Acc) and Lane Keeping Assist (Lca).
