The likely alliance would mean reduced costs for the development of new technologies

Mitsubishi Motors is reportedly in talks to join the strategic partnership planned by Nissan and Honda announced in March. According to rumours in the Japanese media and anticipated by the financial newspaper Nikkei, Nissan would be interested in joining the two manufacturers, who intend to collaborate on electric vehicle components and artificial intelligence in automotive software platforms, although they have not planned a capital 'tie-up' (a joint venture).

The planned partnership underlines the increasing pressure on car manufacturers to work together to reduce the enormous costs of developing new technologies in the two fields in which the Japanese car industry is dividing. This trend is confirmed by Toyota, which collaborates with its partners Suzuki, Subaru and Mazda. Collaboration with Honda would be only natural, since Mitsubishi Motors is 34% owned by Nissan and is part of the long-standing alliance that also includes Renault.
