Modena, the Gip: El Koudri did not act as a consequence of mental disorders
The order validating the arrest of the 31-year-old schizoid personality disorder sufferer who ran over passers-by on Saturday
At the moment, there is no indication that the act committed Saturday afternoon was a consequence of the pathology - schizoid personality disorder - for which Salim El Koudri had been treated at the Castelfranco Emilia mental health centre.
This was stated by the Donatella Pianezzi gip in the order with which she convalidated the arrest of the 31-year-old man who ran over several people in the centre of Modena at full speed in his car. For the gip, there is no evidence that El Koudri was not of sound mind when he committed the crime.
The specific modalities and circumstances of the deed, its seriousness and El Koudri's personality lead to the conclusion that there is a 'concrete danger that he may commit other crimes of the same kind', according to the Gip of the Court of Modena. The man must remain in prison because, if left at large, he could reiterate violent conduct against an 'indeterminate and indeterminable' number of subjects, also in contexts other than Modena. Moreover, the fact that it has not yet been possible to ascertain the reasons and motive for his criminal action makes the precautionary requirements 'even more pregnant'.
