Just a few more days before knowing the future of the Mondello beach in Palermo. The decision of the administrative judges on the (new) dispute between Immobiliare Italo-Belga, which has managed much of the shoreline for the past 116 years, and the Region of Sicily, which has declared the concession to the company void, will take between Monday and Tuesday 19 May.
Hearing before the Council of Administrative Justice
On Thursday, in fact, the magistrates of the Administrative Justice Council for the Sicilian Region - the equivalent of the Council of State in Italia, i.e. the second level of administrative justice - reserved their decision. In the morning, a hearing was held in which the lawyers of the Immobiliare Italo Belga company appealed against the Region's decision (the latter represented by the Avvocatura di Stato) to take away its concession of the Mondello beach. The decision will come between Monday and Tuesday.

In the meantime, however, the shoreline has been 'provisionally' returned to the company. This is because on 25 April, with an urgent order, De Francisco suspended the revocation. The judge considered that there were reasons of public order, which the Region and the Municipality could not in fact guarantee. The Administrative Justice Council will now have to decide whether to confirm or modify the decision.
Because the company had been ousted
The decision will not have to be made on the merits, an aspect referred instead to the TAR. Italo Belga had been ousted due to the presence, among its permanent and seasonal employees, of members of mafia families from the Mondello and Partanna areas. Moreover, the same Immobiliare was in business relations with a company that was later the recipient of an anti-mafia interdiction, Gm Edil, referable to the Genova family, firmly placed at the top of the mafia mafia mafia organisation in the area.
