Key points
It is not just the excitement of the recent Grand Prix that has seen an Italian driver, Kimi Antonelli, return to victory at the Monza circuit 60 years after Ludovico Scarfiotti’s triumph in 1966. Monza continues its rise among the most attractive cities in which to live and buy a flat. With an average price per square metre of €3,431, the annual increase stood at 10.4 per cent. This increase is well above the average for other provincial capitals, which have risen by 5.97 per cent, and has seen Monza climb four places in Casa.it’s ranking of the most expensive provincial capitals in which to buy a flat. The analysis is based on asking prices in August 2026 – for one- to five-room flats – compared with those from the same period the previous year.
Monza is the fifth most expensive city in Italia
Above Monza, among the most expensive provincial capitals in which to buy a flat, are Milan (property prices up 1.4 per cent), Bolzano (up 3.6 per cent), Florence (up 1.6 per cent) and Como (up 10.7 per cent). The Lombardy capital remains at the top of the rankings, with an average asking price of just under 500,000 euros. Como has seen the most significant year-on-year growth, bringing average prices per square metre to 4,000 euros (with an average asking price of 418,671 euros).
Among the ten most expensive cities, Treviso is the exception: despite ranking seventh, the year-on-year change is negative (-1.5 per cent), with average prices below 3,000 euros per square metre. Next come Venice, Trento and, in tenth place, Bologna, with an average asking price for a flat of €343,468.
