Morandi Bridge: former Aspi CEO Castellucci sentenced to 12 years

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The former chief executive of Autostrade per l’Italia, Giovanni Castellucci, has been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for the collapse of the Morandi Bridge on 14 August 2018. This is the first-instance judgement handed down by the judges at the Court of Genoa. The verdict comes eight years after the tragedy of 14 August 2018, which claimed the lives of 43 people. The prosecution had sought a sentence of 18 years and six months for Castellucci, who was at the helm of Aspi from 2005 to 2019. The former head of Aspi is already serving a sentence for the 2013 Monteforte Irpino (Avellino) viaduct disaster.
