It is Morgan Boyce and Simone Rizzato, from the Accademia Costume & Moda, who have won the ninth edition of the Loro Piana Knit Design Award, which promotes young designers and conveys the maison's expertise and savoir-faire in the world of knitwear, enhancing the value of Loro Piana yarns.
The two students won with their 'Parachute' project, considered by the jury to be the best interpretation of this year's theme, 'Winter Legacy': the protagonist was linen, a traditionally summery yarn of which the students were encouraged to experiment with versions and applications suitable for all seasons.
The schools' projects were presented to the jury on 13 May, with the winners officially announced on 14 May during an event at the Casa degli Artisti in Milan, under the patronage of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. The winners received the Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2025, which includes a unique, redesigned trophy, a scholarship and a job opportunity at the fashion house. In addition, the winners will have the opportunity to complete their design project in Loro Piana's knitwear workshops in Piedmont, working alongside artisans who will share their experience and savoir-faire. The finished piece will also be presented at the Loro Piana stand at Pitti Filati, the leading trade event for yarns in the knitwear sector, to be held in Florence from 1 to 3 July.
The winning project was inspired by parachutes that were disused after World War II and reused by Morgan Boyce's relatives as fabric for community clothes, 'Parachute' thus tells a story of resilience and transformation and represents a bridge between the past and the future.
