A Ukrainian drone hit the turbine building of unit 6 of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said. "This afternoon, a Ukrainian fighter drone hit the turbine building of power unit number 6, causing a subsequent detonation," Likhachev was quoted by Ria Novosti as saying, reporting that "this is the first targeted attack on the main equipment of a nuclear power plant, with an explosion piercing the structure and causing damage to the turbine building." However, the plant has reassured that all systems are functioning normally and radiation levels are within normal limits, while no critical damage or casualties or injuries have been reported.
5 dead and 40 injured in Russian raids in the last 24 hours
At least five people were killed and 40 others wounded as a result of Russian attacks targeting several regions of Ukraine over the past 24 hours. This was reported by local authorities quoted by the Kyiv Independent. Russia launched 290 drones, 279 of which were intercepted by the Ukrainian air defence, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. Russia also launched an Iskander-M missile and six Kh-101 cruise missiles, five of which were intercepted. Nine drones managed to evade the defences and hit seven targets, while falling debris was recorded at ten sites. Two missiles did not reach their targets and details have not yet been confirmed.
In the Sumy region, an overnight Russian attack destroyed a railway station in Shostka and damaged station infrastructure with direct hits from several dozen kamikaze drones, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba reported. There were no casualties among staff or passengers, as people were in shelters during the attack, he added. In other attacks in the Sumy region, a 59-year-old man was killed and two people were injured, Governor Oleh Hryhorov reported. In total, 19 settlements in the oblast were targeted. In the Kharkiv oblast, two people were killed and three injured, Governor Oleh Synegubov reported. One person was killed and two people, aged 14 and 24, were injured in a Russian attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia today, oblast governor Ivan Fedorov reported. One person was killed and six others wounded in the Donetsk oblast, local governor Vadym Filashkin said. In the Ukrainian-controlled part of Kherson oblast, Russian forces targeted 34 settlements, including the town of Kherson, injuring 21 people, said Governor Oleksandr Prokudin. In Dnipropetrovsk oblast, where fighting continues in the south-east, Russian attacks throughout the region injured six people, local governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported.
