Verona, identification of the 25-year-old who shot cyclists for 'marked aversion to two-wheels'
The Caprino Veronese Carabinieri identified and reported the young man who had committed the act, which was motivated by traffic disputes and hostility towards cyclists.
The Carabinieri of the Caprino Veronese Company have identified the alleged perpetrator of the incident that took place last Sunday in Peri (Verona), when a group of cyclists from the S.C. Padovani team were fired upon in the street. According to the reconstruction made by the Arma, it was a 25-year-old local man, who, driving his car and in the process of overtaking them on the SS12 Abetone and Brenner road, pulled out a gun and fired two shots at them. The gesture was allegedly due to trivial motives related to disagreements over manoeuvres.
The investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of Peri (Verona), with the analysis of number plate reading systems and the extensive information activity in the area, made it possible to quickly trace the identity of the perpetrator. In particular, some details of the large-capacity German car emerged, including a non-functioning headlight, a detail that made it possible to narrow the field of the search and to sift through the mass of transits recorded by the municipal video surveillance systems.
The weapon used, a blank gun, which the young man was carrying and which was found by the Carabinieri inside the passenger compartment, hidden under the boot floor, without the compulsory red cap, was also identified and seized.
This detail led investigators to suspect that the suspect was holding it illegally and not for recreational purposes.
The 25-year-old was reported to the Verona Public Prosecutor's Office for aggravated assault, carrying weapons or offensive objects and dangerous explosions.
