MPS: Giorgetti, we will not attend the general meeting; the market will favour the best offer

This was the comment from Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on the position of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), which holds almost 5 per cent of MPS, ahead of the shareholders’ meeting at the end of October regarding the bid for Banco BPM and Banca Generali. “The market, with its ability to discern, will likely reward the best bid,” he said, referring to the two bids on the table: Intesa’s bid for MPS and Siena’s bid for BPM and Banca Generali.
