MPS: MEF sources say stake ‘frozen’, no interference with ongoing operations
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The Ministry of the Economy has ‘frozen’ its stake in MPS so as not to interfere with the ongoing operations involving the bank. This was reported by sources at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) following a meeting between Minister Giorgetti and the Governor of Tuscany, Eugenio Giani, the Mayor of Siena, Nicoletta Fabio, and the President of the Province, Agnese Carletti. The Ministry is assessing the situation with “objectivity and impartiality, strictly adhering to the law”, they report, noting that Giorgetti has repeatedly emphasised, including in Committee, the Ministry’s neutrality, explaining that he had put the accelerated book-building process on hold immediately following the announcement of Intesa’s bid so as not to interfere with market transactions.
