Fines and taxes: a 20-day suspension on the issuing of payment notices and enforcement proceedings in August
No flood of payment demands or enforcement orders. The Revenue and Collection Agency is operating as normal ahead of the summer break, which will last around twenty days for debtors and advisers

The Revenue Agency – Collection Division will not issue payment notices or enforcement orders, to give taxpayers and their advisers some breathing space during the summer holidays. This has been announced by the Revenue Agency itself, which points out, however, that the break will not apply in cases where proceedings might be interrupted by the statute of limitations or in cases involving criminal liability.
A break from studying
The exact timing of the suspension of the sending of notices for unpaid fines and taxes is still being finalised, but the Tax Collection Agency’s general plan is to suspend all debt recovery activities during the middle two weeks of August, which, according to the calendar, could run from Saturday 8 to Saturday 22 August. The final decision on the dates of the summer break is expected in the coming days.
Clarification
On this occasion, the public revenue collection agent clarified that there has been no increase in the number of payment notices and attachment orders being served. According to the Revenue Agency – Collection Division, there has been no spike; on the contrary, for both types of activity, the figures are entirely normal, in line with the previous year.
