Universities: Mur to provide 25.5 million to attract the best young researchers to Italia

Fifty-four young researchers and €25.5 million in investment to make Italia increasingly attractive to international research talent. The Minister for Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, has signed the decree setting out the shortlist for the ‘Rita Levi Montalcini Programme’, which funds the return to, or arrival at, Italian universities of young scholars who have been working abroad for several years.

The Programme is open to graduates of any nationality who obtained their PhD no more than six years ago and have at least three years’ experience in scientific or teaching work carried out abroad. The successful candidates will be appointed as tenure-track researchers (RTT), with dedicated funding also allocated to the development of their research projects. Of the total investment, “over 21 million” will fund the research contracts, with the remainder dedicated to directly supporting scientific activities. “Congratulations to the 54 successful candidates of the latest Montalcini Programme. Their talent, recognised internationally, is an asset to our country,” explains _Minister Bernini_. “Italian universities need ideas that travel, expertise that engages with the world, and researchers ready to transform knowledge into a shared future.”

The Rita Levi Montalcini Programme is one of the tools through which the Ministry strengthens the Italian university system’s ability to attract international expertise, encourage the return of researchers and invest in the next generation of researchers.
