Music: 52 billion streams in six months (+7 per cent) and vinyl is going from strength to strength
The recorded music market in Italia – according to a FIMI statement – continues to grow and closed the first half of 2026 with a positive growth rate of 7.3 per cent, amounting to a total turnover of approximately 225 million euros.
In a landscape where digital now accounts for 80 per cent of the market, streaming is inevitably the driving force; with more than 52 billion plays in the first six months of the year, it alone accounts for a total of 179 million euros, marking a 7 per cent increase compared with 2025. The subscription segment, in particular, is expanding, with growth of 9.45 per cent, whilst ad-supported audio has seen a slight decline of 1.31 per cent. Ad-supported video streaming, on the other hand, is holding up well, recording growth of 2.73 per cent.
However, it is the physical sector that is growing the most, accounting for 12 per cent of the total, driven mainly by the boom in vinyl (+18.50 per cent), a format that has now become a mass-market phenomenon, whilst CD sales remain stable, growing by 1.29 per cent to reach a turnover of around 11 million euros.
