Musk against Mamdani over choice of new fire chief: 'People will die'
The appointment of Lilian Bonsignore, a queer woman, infuriates the tycoon. But the mayor retorts: 'Experience counts'
Elon Musk attacks Zohran Mamdani for choosing an inexperienced person to lead the New York City Fire Department. "People will die because of this decision. Experience is critical when lives are at stake," Musk said.
The neo-elected mayor of New York, who will take office on the first of January, has chosen Lillian Bonsignore, a veteran in emergency medical services, for the New York Fire Department. Bonsignore will be the first queer woman to lead New York's fire service and the second in history to do so.
Mamdani's reply was not long in coming: 'Experience counts and that is why I have appointed a person who has spent 30 years in the emergency medical services, which handle at least 70 per cent of the calls that come into the New York Fire Department,' Mamdani said.
