The mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi signed two ordinances for the 'ad horas' eviction of the Vela Gialla and Vela Rossa in Scampia, the two buildings scheduled for demolition. The orders were signed 'for safety reasons' and 'due to the risks threatening public and private safety'. The two buildings are owned by the City of Naples and currently occupied, located in the Scampia district in Via della Resistenza, block C - Vela Gialla and block D - Vela Rossa.

There are three Vele in Scampia still standing out of the 7 planned in the original project. Both the Vela Rossa (Red Sail) and the Vela Gialla (Yellow Sail) are destined to be demolished and, on the site area, the new buildings envisaged by the redevelopment project for the district to the north of Naples will be constructed. The third sail is the Vela Celeste, inside which the collapse of a balcony occurred on 22 July last, causing the death of three people, and is currently cleared.

The two orders signed today by Mayor Manfredi provide for the eviction deemed 'appropriate and necessary in relation to the current conditions of use of the access ramps to the housing units' in the respective Sails. The eviction of 23 housing units in the Vela Gialla and 17 units in the Vela Rossa was ordered.
