Naples, new Art Metro station: Monte Sant'Angelo inaugurated
Infrastructure built on Line 7 of the city's metro system by Webuild on behalf of Eav

The new station of the Naples Art Metro is now operational: it is the Monte Sant'Angelo station built by Webuild on the new Line 7.
This new opening will allow the passage of the first trains on Line 7, on the section between the Monte Sant'Angelo and Soccavo stops, where an interconnection with the Circumflegrea is also planned. This brings into operation a fundamental new element of the Neapolitan public transport system that guarantees further opportunities for sustainable mobility thanks to interconnections with the existing metro network. In particular, for those arriving from Monte Sant'Angelo, it is now possible to interchange at the Montesanto junction with the Circumflegrea and Cumana, which connect the city centre with the Phlegrean area, and with the funicular railway reaching the Vomero district. Also at Montesanto, further interconnections are possible with Line 2 and the nearby central Piazza Dante and Toledo stops of Line 1, offering an alternative to private transport in a densely populated area.
Realised by Webuild on behalf of EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno), the implementing body of the Campania Region, Monte Sant'Angelo is one of the "Stations of Art" in Naples, hosting two monumental installations by the internationally renowned artist Anish Kapoor positioned at the two entrances, one serving the campus of the University of Naples Federico II and the other in the Rione Traiano district. The two works are sculptures of cyclopean dimensions in the shape of a mouth that engulf visitors, accompanying them inwards and transforming the entrance to the station into an immersive journey evoking a descent into the Underworld. Even the interior, developed underground on a single level sloping downwards, is reminiscent of a cavern thanks to the natural rock effect of the lining of the transit tunnels. Escalators and characteristic inclined lifts inspired by the city's funicular railways provide access to the platforms.
Monte Sant'Angelo is the first of the four new stations planned on Line 7, which will extend for over 4.5 km almost entirely underground, with a final connection to the Mostra station where it will interchange with the Cumana, Line 6 and the nearby Campi Flegrei stop on Line 2. On Line 7, Webuild is also working on the construction of the Parco San Paolo station, where work has exceeded 50% overall progress and the first two underground levels out of the five planned have already been completed. For the third level, the related slab is being completed, while in recent days excavation work has also begun on the new tunnel connecting to the future Terracina stop.
In Naples, Webuild is also currently involved in the construction of the Capodichino station on Line 1, which will directly connect the three major poles of the city's mobility - the port, airport and railway network, including high-speed rail - and in the doubling of the Cumana railway, which connects Naples to Pozzuoli, on a stretch of about 5 km between the Dazio and Cantieri stations.
