Naples, record attendance at Christmas with 1.8 million visitors
Data from the Urban Observatory processed on behalf of the municipality. Armato: 'All forecasts exceeded'

Record numbers of tourists in Naples over the Christmas period. An estimated 1.8 million visitors arrived in the city from 19 December to 6 January: a figure that far exceeds forecasts, according to the Urban Tourist Observatory, which monitors arrivals and presences on behalf of the City Council. At the beginning of December, there was talk of 1 million tourists heading to Naples. An estimate made on the basis of the experience of 2024 when 1 million people had already been spoken of as a 'miracle'.
'We have gone far beyond the best forecasts _ says the Councillor for Tourism of the City of Naples, Teresa Armato _ such a result had never been achieved before'.
The same Observatory noted that, from 2 to 6 January, 364,000 tourists stayed for three nights and 649,800 for four nights.
Moreover, Naples has entered the list of the top 10 most authentic cities in Europe and is the only Italian city in the ranking. This emerges from a study by the InsureandGo site, specialising in travel insurance, which analysed over 1,300,000 reviews left by tourists on Google Maps in 144 cities around the world. The result rewards destinations where travellers perceive a genuine, local experience, not one built for tourists. Naples ranks eighth in Europe with an authenticity score of 36.4, surpassing cities like Frankfurt and leaving behind hyper-tourist destinations like Venice and London.
Tourism is increasingly becoming an important item in Campania's GDP. Also for the ancillary business it generates. To the hotel and horeca sector is dedicated the 6th edition of Tuttohotel, a trade fair that opened yesterday at the Mostra D'Oltremare in Naples and will continue until 14 January. The event is organised by Ticketlab, Squisito Eventi and D&D Group and represents an extraordinary showcase for hotels, B&B, agritourisms, spas, bathing establishments and non-hotel accommodation facilities. It is the reference B2B fair for the tourism industry in central and southern Italy, with over 180 brands taking part this year.
