Today Friday, 26 September, inconvenience is at risk for those who have to travel by air, with a 24-hour strike proclaimed by Cub Trasporti. The time slots provided by law, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will be guaranteed, in addition to the flights indicated in the Enac list. The Volotea airline crew and ground staff, proclaimed by Uiltrasporti, and the Wizz Air pilots and flight attendants, proclaimed by Fil Cgil, will also cross their arms for the whole day.
Cub's strike is part of mobilisations 'to support the Palestinian people', as well as to 'defend wages' and demand 'better working conditions'. The union will also hold a presidium at 10 a.m. at Malpensa airport, at the arrivals gate at Terminal 1, with the intention of then going in procession to Cargo City where 'a permanent assembly will take place with a total blockade of the cargo gates'. And always for the Palestinian cause, the union Usb has proclaimed from Friday 26 September 'a permanent state of agitation and the occupation of a hundred squares for Gaza'.
With regard to the strike at Volotea, Uiltrasporti explains that the mobilisation "comes after years of non-recognition of workers' rights and trade union representation accrued over time". The company 'continues to deny the opening of a negotiating table for the achievement of a regular collective labour agreement, unilaterally imposing pay and organisational conditions that have generated a condition of wage poverty and a sharp deterioration in the quality of life of the staff', denounces the union, announcing for the whole day also the garrisons at the airports of Naples and Palermo. Contractual reasons are also at the basis of the protest at Wizz Air, for example "the revision of the economic treatment, applied to employees, without any prior consultation or agreement with the trade unions", explains Filt CGIL, but also "the failure to resolve the serious criticalities, within the protection of the rights and interests of the company's workers" underlines the union.
Who is entitled to reimbursement
.RefundAlVolo recalls the rights of passengers recognised by EU law that are also valid in the case of union protests. "Regulation EC 261/2004 stipulates that in all cases where a flight is cancelled without at least 14 days' notice, or is subject to a long delay, the airline is obliged to guarantee assistance to passengers (meals, drinks, hotel accommodation, transfers from the airport to the hotel, etc.)" under penalty of reimbursement of the costs incurred by travellers.
In the event that a flight is cancelled the airline must in addition offer the choice between: "reimbursement of the ticket and, in the event of a connection, a return flight to the airport of departure as soon as possible; boarding on another flight to the final destination as soon as possible; or boarding on another flight at a later date".
