NATO: Trump says he is ready to offer security guarantees to Ukraine

This was stated by US President Donald Trump, responding to questions from journalists on the sidelines of the NATO summit. When asked whether Washington was prepared to impose new sanctions on Russia, Trump said that there was “a lot of pressure” on Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that he did not believe “he likes what is happening”.

When asked about the possibility of offering security guarantees to Kyiv, Trump replied: “We want to do it; we want to do it to save lives. I’m trying to save lives.” Trump added that Washington would work with Russia on an agreement regarding security guarantees to ensure that Ukraine “is never attacked again”. “Russia respects us a great deal and we will work on some sort of security agreement. If we can reach the right agreement, we will help Europe and work on some form of security package,” he said, adding that he did not believe Moscow would attack Ukraine again in that case. The US president finally reiterated that Ukraine has “enormous potential”.
