Netanyahu admits 'some responsibility' for the 7 October massacre

IIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged some responsibility for the mistakes that allowed the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack, but stated that "everyone", from the top leadership to the grassroots, was responsible and that the "real problem" is what happened after that attack, not what preceded it.

Asked by CBS why all those who were responsible for security during the attack resigned or were fired except him, Netanyahu said that some left because their mandate had expired and that only one or two 'said they were taking responsibility, but it's not clear what, what does that mean, you know? What is their responsibility?"

"We analyse the political hierarchy, the military hierarchy, the security hierarchy. We analyse everyone, because everyone has some responsibility. Yes, from the top, from the prime minister down,' he said, reiterating his proposal to establish a politically appointed commission of enquiry instead of a state commission of enquiry, the highest form of enquiry in the country, which he refused to create.

"But I think the real issue is: OK, this is valid until 7 October. And since then? It was clearly my responsibility to free Israel from this horrible noose of death that the Iranians had put on us. And we did that, systematically and with great resolve, on each of these seven fronts, one after the other, and we repelled the wave of terrorism,' he concluded.
