Media: ‘Fire at a hotel in Kolkata, at least 9 dead’

“At least nine people have died and six have been injured” in a fire that broke out overnight at a hotel in the centre of Kolkata, the city in north-eastern India formerly known as Calcutta: this is according to local media reports citing the authorities.

According to an official interviewed by the Indian news agency PTI, around 80 people were evacuated from the building.
