Nigeria, three suicide bombings: 23 dead and 108 injured
Acts of terrorism occurred in Maiduguri, in the north-east, where groups such as Boko Haram and Iswap operate
At least 23 people died and more than a hundred were injured in athreefold suicide bombing overnight in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria. This was reported by the police in the state of Borno.
The explosions occurred around 7.24pm local time at a market, at the entrance to the university hospital and near a major construction site. "Preliminary investigations indicate that the incidents were the work of suspected suicide bombers. Unfortunately, 23 people lost their lives and 108 were injured,' the police announced.
The injured have been evacuated to local hospitals, where they are being treated. Security forces have cordoned off the affected areas and started clean-up operations to rule out further threats, while security arrangements remain tightened. In the Northeast of Nigeria operate several armed groups, including Boko Haram and its Iswap faction.
