North Korea tests 'long-range cruise missile'
The weapon is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead
North Korea has carried out a test of a long-range cruise missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. The North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, oversaw the exercise, which took place on the Yellow Sea, and called for an 'unlimited and sustainable' development of his country's nuclear combat forces, according to the Kcna news agency.
It was the first such test since the beginning of November. The South Korean military claimed to have detected the launch of several missiles from the Sunan area near Pyongyang, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap. The aim of the exercise was to examine 'the counteroffensive response posture and combat capability of long-range missile subunits', the Kcna said.
North Korea had tested a ballistic missile on 6 November, just over a week after US President Donald Trump, who was visiting the region, expressed interest in meeting Kim. Pyongyang did not respond to the offer.
