Marius Borg Høiby, son of Princess Mette-Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison for two counts of rape
He was found guilty of two of the four counts of rape against him and acquitted of the other two.
On 15 June 2026, Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Mette-Marit – who is set to become queen whilst her husband, Prince Haakon, will become king following the death on 28 August 2026 of King Harald V – was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for rape.
He was found guilty of two of the four counts of rape against him and acquitted of the other two.
He was also convicted of assault and abuse within intimate relationships. In addition to his prison sentence, Høiby will have to pay compensation to the victims. The 29-year-old faced a total of 40 charges, including a number of minor offences such as assault, drug-related offences and breaches of a restraining order: these carried a combined sentence of 16 years’ imprisonment.
Høiby was not present in court for health reasons and watched the verdict being read out via a video link from prison. Prosecutors had asked the Oslo District Court to sentence him to seven years and seven months’ imprisonment, whilst the defence lawyers had argued that he should be acquitted of the rape charges and receive no more than 18 months for the offences to which he had pleaded guilty.

The Oslo Public Prosecutor’s Office on 19 March 2026 sought a sentence of seven years and seven months’ imprisonment for Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, who appears in hundreds of the so-called Epstein files, and the businessman Morten Borg, with whom she had a brief relationship.
