In the last, agitated hours, the Meloni government was beaten twice in the Senate Budget Committee, which finally approved the Fiscal Decree. Now the measure is about to get the green light of the chamber of Palazzo Madama. The government's black day told the epilogue of an uncompromising internal tug-of-war. The final figure was the split in the centre-right: FdI and Lega on one side voted in favour of the cut in the RAI licence fee, on the other Forza Italia with the oppositions stopped the amendment of Matteo Salvini's party. Shortly afterwards, again in the Budget Committee, the political reprisal of the Lega senators, who abstained and in doing so contributed to the rejection of a proposal by Claudio Lotito, a member of the Italian national coalition, on healthcare in Calabria.

"There is no need for a government audit, but we must return to respecting the programme signed with the voters and do the things we have shared". With these words Raffaele Nevi, national spokesman of Forza Italia and deputy group leader at the Chamber of Deputies, interviewed by Affaritaliani.it, speaks of the latest tensions in the government and in the majority, especially with the League. A message to the League? 'Get a grip, lower your tone and let's get back to talking to each other more,' Nevi concludes. According to Nevi, "Salvini is being a little 'paracular' and saying that in the programme there is also the reduction of the tax burden to defend the rejected amendment on the RAI canon. But that 0.50 euro per citizen that we would have given even to the super-rich would have cost other taxpayers 450 million euro'.

The fact is that the executive had to deal with a new rift in the vote. But it is not the first time. In the past it happened on the ratification of the Mes amendments, just before Christmas 2023 (Fi chose abstention, unlike Lega and FdI who voted against). The House chamber rejected the ratification of the treaty. "We want to express an abstention on the proposed opinion against the MES because the MES will be an opportunity and not an obligation and because we need to continue with a continuous and constructive collaboration and confrontation with the European institutions," explained the leader of the Azzurro group in the Budget Committee of Montecitorio, Roberto Pella.

Or as on the third term of office for governors, another Legazi flag, which twice this year, between February and March, saw the majority split. In late February, in particular, the League's amendment to the elections dl on the third term for regional governors was rejected. In the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Senate, where the measure was being examined, Fratelli d'Italia and Forza Italia, supported by Pd, M5s, Avs, voted against the Lega's amendment proposal. Italia viva voted in support of the Lega. Azione did not participate in the vote. In all there were 4 votes in favour, 16 against.

As happened in the examination of the Security bill, when on the issue of mother-inmates it was again Tajani's party that dissociated itself. In July, with 21 votes against and 18 in favour, the oppositions' repeal amendment on detained mothers did not pass. In the Constitutional Affairs Committee, during the vote on the security bill, FdI and Lega rejected the centre-left proposal that aimed to eliminate the obligation to defer sentences for pregnant mothers. This decision was not shared by Forza Italia, which decided not to participate in the vote. In September, Forza Italia presented a request to amend the security bill to 'correct' the amendment approved with only Fdi and Lega voting. The text aimed to restore the mandatory deferment of punishment for mothers of newborn children (aged between zero and 12 months), who are thus deferred from prison, so that no child has to spend the first months behind bars.

Divisive topics on international dossiers

.

The list of issues dividing the League and Forza Italia grows longer every day. One aims to take away from the other the sceptre of second political force in the coalition, behind FdI. And Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani appear as two vice-premiers increasingly 'distinct and distant'. Crossing even national borders. Ursula von der Leyen's Commission, which has as vice-president the Melonian Raffaele Fitto, obtained the green light from the Europarliament with the League voting against and FI in favour. And the two 'knife brothers' are also on opposite sides when it comes to the war in Ukraine and the war in the Middle East. Salvini attacked head-on the judges of the International Criminal Court who issued the arrest warrant against Netanyahu, making it clear that in any case the Israeli premier 'would be welcome in Italy'. While Tajani, holder of the Farnesina, issued an invitation to "measure your words" because "Italy's foreign policy is a serious matter and the line is expressed by the president of the Council and the foreign minister". That is, him.

Distance on autonomy

.

But the list of what divides the two parties is very long. It starts with Autonomy, which has always been a priority for Salvini and a measure badly digested by Tajani's parliamentarians. And we come to the chapter on banks, which sees the two always marching on parallel tracks. With the Azzurro leader sending a message to the Minister of the Economy, the Lega Nord's Giancarlo Giorgetti: do not get involved in non-political matters. But the Justice chapter also has its pitfalls, with Fi being a garantist. An example of the 'upward game' is the prison issue. On the rule in favour of mother prisoners, to cite just one case, the Forzists were ready to vote, while the Salvinians made a wall. And nothing more was done about it. And citizenship is also the subject of strong opposition. Fi presented the 'ius Italiae', i.e., the granting of citizenship after a 10-year course of study, and a tightening of the Ius Sanguinis, which would stop at great-grandparents. But the League closed. While the Carroccio youth insulted Tajani at Pontida. Disagreements are growing and there are those who say that, on the eve of the vote on the Manovra and that for the Consulta judges, a 'recomposition' between the two may not be on the agenda.
