Novara and Vercelli, exports slow down but still positive

Exports in the provinces of Novara and Vercelli slowed down in the second quarter of 2025, but the two provincial capitals confirmed that they were ahead of the rest of Italy, according to data from the Export Observatory. In the period from April to June 2025, the two provinces grew by +5.3% year-on-year, slowing down compared to the first quarter of the year (+8.6%), but confirming a strongly positive trend that was clearly better than the national trend, which limited growth to +1.1% in the second quarter. The aggregate figure for the first half of the year shows a growth of +6.9% at provincial level and an increase of +2.1% at national level.

Considerando le sole esportazioni manifatturiere delle due province l’incremento rispetto allo stesso periodo dello scorso anno è stato del +5,8%. L’andamento è positivo per quasi tutti i settori produttivi. Fanno eccezione gli articoli farmaceutici (-6,3%), il legno, i prodotti in legno, carta e stampa (-8,8%), che confermano la dinamica poco brillante già emersa nel primo trimestre dell’anno, ai quali si è aggiunto il calo dell’export delle sostanze e prodotti chimici (-1,7%). Quanto agli altri settori, l’export dell’aggregato “prodotti tessili, abbigliamento, pelli e accessori” è cresciuto del +6,7%, con al suo interno i prodotti tessili in aumento del +7,8% e gli articoli di abbigliamento in crescita del +3,2%. L’export di macchinari e apparecchi è aumentato del +5,2% con, al loro interno, le macchine di impiego generale (rubinetteria-valvolame) cresciute del +4,3%.

As regards the geographical breakdown of manufacturing exports from the two provinces, in the first half of the year, there was a trend increase of +5.8% in direct sales both within the 27 European Union (59.7%) and to non-EU countries (40.3%). The main destination countries are confirmed to be Germany, France and the United States, to which 37.3% of Novara and Vercelli's total manufacturing exports are directed. On the import side, there was strong growth in the Czech Republic (+538.5%) and the United States (+138.5%).

In the province of Novara, exports of general purpose machinery (taps and fittings-valves) grew by +4.8%, while exports of textiles and clothing grew by +8.1%, compared to the -1.9% drop in national exports. In the province of Vercelli, exports of general purpose machinery (taps and fittings-valves) grew by +7.7%, confirming and reinforcing the good dynamic that emerged in the first three months of the year (+4.0%); exports of textiles and clothing, on the other hand, slowed down abruptly, limiting their growth to +0.8% (compared to +12.6% in the first quarter).
