Novartis: second-quarter sales of $14.41 billion (+3 per cent), core earnings per share unchanged

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - , 21 July - Novartis has announced a return to sales growth in the second quarter, after competition from low-cost medicines in the United States – for products whose patents have now expired – had weighed on revenue and earnings in previous quarters. Net sales for the second quarter stood at $14.41 billion, up 3 per cent on a reported basis and 1 per cent at constant exchange rates. Analysts surveyed by Visible Alpha had forecast quarterly net sales of $13.96 billion.
Core earnings per share remained unchanged at $2.41 per share, down 1 per cent at constant exchange rates. The Swiss group has confirmed its full-year guidance. Net sales are expected to grow at a single-digit percentage rate (at the lower end of the range), whilst core operating profit is expected to decline at a single-digit percentage rate (at the lower end of the range).
