Nuclear bill: final approval by the Senate plenary
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The Senate has given its final approval, with 81 votes in favour, 51 against and 7 abstentions, to the enabling bill on sustainable nuclear energy, in the version already approved by the Chamber of Deputies on 4 June.
The bill empowers the Government to adopt, within one year of its entry into force, one or more legislative decrees to regulate, in particular, the production and use of energy from sustainable nuclear sources, in accordance with the European Union’s taxonomy; the manufacture and reprocessing of nuclear fuel; the decommissioning and dismantling of existing facilities; the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel; and research, development and the use of fusion energy. The delegation of powers refers, in particular, to new ‘Small Modular Reactors (SMR)’ and ‘Advanced Modular Reactors (AMR)’ production facilities.
