The organisers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics want to organise 'a car-free event' to combat the notorious traffic jams in the Californian megalopolis and encourage spectators to take public transport, the network of which will be developed. It will be a 'car-free Games', said the metropolis' mayor, Karen Bass, pointing out that measures will also be taken to encourage telecommuting by residents of the city, which now has a population of almost 3.8 million and a very large urban area.
The mayor also recalled the example of the previous Olympic Games organised in Los Angeles in 1984. "At the time, the people of the city were terrified that we would have terrible traffic jams, but we were surprised that we did not have them, without the technology of today," he noted.
