Omoda&Jaecoo's Super Hybrid (Shs) technology gets a makeover and gets on board the new Omoda 9 SUV, the flagship entering the D-Suv segment where premium brands dominate.

With a list price starting at 51,900 euro, the new Omoda 9 has been available at dealers since the end of May and is offered with one trim, two interior options and four body colours.

Growth and the new model

.

Since the launch of Omoda&Jaecoo in Italy in July 2024, less than a year ago, 6,000 units have been sold in Italy and plans call for a new model in the B/C segment, the Omoda 3, to be introduced in 2026.

Returning to Omoda 9, the star of the test, we note generous dimensions: 4,779 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, 1,671 mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. Luggage compartment capacity is 660 litres and reaches 1,783 litres by folding down the rear seatback.

The styling echoes that of the Omoda 5 suv, with a bold and futuristic design language that also looks at functionality with an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.308 for the benefit of fuel consumption, a strong point of the car that is claimed to have an overall range of 1,100 kilometres.

Comfortable and soundproof interior

.

The ele

ganza of body lines is also found inside the cabin. The adoption of premium materials such as Nappa leather and digitisation with the 12.3-inch dual screen makes the Omoda 9 an attractive option.

The decision to keep the climate control and the selection of driving modes with 'physical' wheels is functional and supported.

On board, soundproofing is a strong point of the car, thanks to the encapsulated heat engine and the adoption of Michelin tyres. While, to hear the sound of the soundtracks chosen for the journey, Omoda 9 is equipped with a Sony sound system.

Super Hybrid System

.

Under the bonnet, the Omoda 9 Super Hybrid is equipped with a thermally efficient 1.5 Tgdi engine, combined with two electric motors at the front, one at the rear and a three-speed DHT gearbox. The system unloads over 500 hp, 537 hp to be precise, on all four wheels, allowing 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.9 seconds. The overall range exceeds 1,100 km, and over 145 km in EV (Wltp homologation cycle), thanks to a 34.46 kWh battery and a 70-litre fuel tank, while consumption in hybrid mode is just 1.7 l/100 km.

Comfort and driveability are ensured by a sophisticated chassis with magnetically controlled CDC suspension, capable of modifying the response 1,000 times per second, a perfectly soundproofed and formaldehyde-free cabin.
