"A book that enriches the public debate, in a way that is not taken for granted and outside the clichés, on a complex but central issue. Especially for a country like ours, which must bring all its potential to bear to overcome growing imbalances and persistent inequalities. In order to deserve a better future, this is the message, it is necessary to give everyone the opportunity to contribute, with their personal growth, to the processes of development and collective wellbeing'. This is the opinion of Alessandro Rosina, Full Professor of Demography and Social Statistics, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of the book 'Work and Confidence' by Maria Cristina Origlia.

"A useful read for those who want to gain a different perspective on the world of work, which invites us to overcome stereotypes and simplistic narratives, accompanying the reader on a path of reflection with data, experiences and analysis. The author encourages us to rediscover the value of the human dimension, the importance of communication and the need to build a more solid and sustainable professional culture, one that is able to enhance the involvement of the new generations and recognise the fundamental role of education and training. Not just a text to inform oneself, but a tool to reflect, open new horizons and contribute in a conscious manner to the work of today and tomorrow'. the lines dedicated to the volume by Claudia Parzani, President of Borsa Italiana.

How is work narrated today? And what do we discover if we compare some of these narratives with the facts? One discovers that often themainstream narrative replicates old beliefs, at other times it bends to instrumentalisation, at other times it is simply superficial. However, the result is always the same: widespread misinformation that breeds mistrust and discouragement.

This book puts under a magnifying glass some of today's most debated topics in the world of work (made in Italy and entrepreneurship, equal opportunities and the family-career relationship, meritocracy, DE&I, sustainability), with the aim of shedding light and, in some cases, opening the reader's eyes.

Starting with a statement, summarising the common narrative, it proceeds with a critical analysis that redefines its contours through reference to studies, research, data. Once the reality is established, a proactive part follows, thanks to a gallery of academic and managerial voices that suggest the way to rebuild confidence in work and in the power to transform things.

Maria Cristina Origlia has, among other things, edited the monthly L'impresa - Il Sole 24 Ore for eight years. She is a regular speaker and moderator at conferences, debates and talks. She is a contributor to Harvard Business Review Italia, scientific popularizer of the Sustainable Work Observatory of the Gi Group Foundation, member of the Scientific Committee of AIDP and President of the Scientific Committee of the Meritocracy Forum.
