To get a closer look at the 10,000-seat arena, whose external structure is in fact completed, last month Sports Minister Andrea Abodi arrived, accompanied by the mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro. A work that alone is worth 95 million euro, almost a third of the 'budget' of the entire Bosco dello Sport, the project wanted by the City of Venice, which provides, in addition to the sports hall, the construction of the new stadium, within a green lung north of the Tessera airport, with a new access road system and the possibility of reaching the facilities also by train, thanks to the railway link road to the airport being completed by Rfi. The works were contracted out in September two years ago to the temporary grouping of companies led by Cev of Treviso, with the mandating companies Maeg costruzioni, Gianni Benvenuto and Milani. And the construction site of the arena has been standing there for months now, clearly visible to those travelling on the motorway link road to Venice airport.
The candidate for the management of the facility is 'patron' Brugnaro's Reyer, with an offer currently being evaluated by the Venice City Council. The company is requesting forty-year management of the facility, with an overall economic commitment of 143 million euro, with an annual fee of 600 thousand euro. The sum includes complementary works for 21 million euro, which include a restaurant, sky boxes for VIP guests, merchandising areas and technological equipment for radio and television broadcasting, as well as ledwalls on the sidelines.
The facility, which will also host concerts and entertainment events in the future, will not be reserved for basketball. The deputy mayor and councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Venice, Andrea Tomaello, hypothesised that the arena could also host some matches of the world champions of Prosecco Doc Conegliano. It is a hypothesis that the two owners, Piero Garbellotto and Pietro Maschio, are looking at with interest: 'We are seriously considering playing the main matches with Milan, Scandicci, Novara, the finals there,' Maschio recently told the local press. In Tessera we could also organise events such as the Italian Cup and Champions League finals'.
