The new Grandland pushes Opel towards an increasingly electric future, as the German brand plans to offer at least one battery-powered version for every new model in its line-up, including commercial ones. More refined styling derived from the Experimental concept and special features are the new adaptive headlights that make use of high-resolution micro-LEDs to work more precisely as well as animating the grille typical of all Opels.

Changes in size and increases roominess

.

There is no shortage of other new details such as illuminated brand lettering for the first time on an Opel and wheels up to 20 inches. Also changing are the dimensions: 4.65 metres long, 17 cm longer, 1.89 wide and a height of 1.66 metres. This benefits roominess and load capacity. The luggage compartment offers 550 litres as a base, which can be expanded to 1,640 litres with the split-type rear sofa.

No more diesel, but hybrid, electric and plug-in

.

And we come to the engines. Since diesel is no longer available, the new Grandland is offered in a 136 hp 48 Volt Hybrid thermal version with six-speed automatic transmission. For the plug-in, on the other hand, Opel claims up to 85 km in electric combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Speaking of autonomy, the electric version has 700 kilometres in its sights with a 98kWh battery pack.

The electric is credited with a range of 700 km

.

The 400 Volt architecture allows 80 per cent of the charge to be recovered in 26 minutes, even from an ultra fast charger. The passenger compartment in turn raises the level of finish and equipment, with a focus on sustainability. Seats and panels are upholstered in recycled fabrics in an ergonomic format. At the centre of the dashboard is the new 16-inch screen, combined with the digital instrument cluster as well as the head-up display.

Artificial intelligence for on-board assistance

.

Artificial intelligence is expected to support on-board assistance, although not the car's functions. Prices for the new Opel Grandland will be known in October, while deliveries are expected from December. The top-secret price list is expected to start at under 40,000 euro for the hybrid version, while the electric will follow from a base well above 40,000 euro.
