Philharmonic Orchestra Open Rehearsals kick off at La Scala

On the 18th at the Teatro Comunale the pianist Beatrice Rana. The programme is well conceived, where Debussy's Études stand out (we are reminded of Pollini, who presented them in the 1980s and recorded them). Technically demanding in terms of rhythmic complexity, transparency of the sound fabric, unusual articulations, and very precise timbral demands, they show a late Debussy, close to 20th-century modernity, more interested in structure and gesture than atmosphere; they are a poetic testament. Moreover, the pianist has them preceded by Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" and followed by Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker"; and then Prokofiev again (Sonata No. 6) in the closing - a rather demanding and unusual programme, with the (welcome) presence of the two pyrotechnical arrangements from famous ballets.

Other dates are 21 at the Teatro S. Carlo in Naples, 23 at La Scala, 28 at the Parco della Musica in Rome.
