OpenAi, 3.9 billion agreement to develop a centre in Australia

The US artificial intelligence giant OpenAI and an Australian data centre operator announced that they have signed a rich memorandum of understanding to develop a dedicated Ai centre in Sydney.

The Brisbane-based, Sydney-listed NextDC company specified that the memorandum of understanding covers a 'next-generation' centre dedicated to Ai and a 'supercluster' of graphics processing units. The two groups will work together to design, develop and operate these facilities in western Sydney, OpenAI said in a statement.

NextDC's shares rose more than 4% after these announcements. According to the Australian Government, this A$7 billion (about EUR 3.9 billion) project could create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during its construction, and then permanent jobs.
