OpenAI: working with Anthropic and Google on artificial intelligence security
Companies in the sector are discussing security without antitrust exemptions so that they can work together
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - OpenAI is working on measures to tackle artificial intelligence security issues alongside its main competitors, Anthropic and Google DeepMind, stepping up the industry’s efforts to address growing concerns that this technology poses an economic and security threat. This is reported by Bloomberg. Chris Lehane, OpenAI’s head of global policy, stated that dialogue between the company and its two competitors has been ongoing for several weeks. He added that OpenAI does not believe an exemption from antitrust rules is necessary for the three artificial intelligence companies to coordinate on security issues. “It is better to try to work together to prioritise safety,” Lehane said during a briefing in Washington. Concerns about the existential risks of artificial intelligence have intensified following the publication, last Saturday, of an essay by the CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, who urged a cap on the development of the most advanced systems so that researchers can better understand the potential threats. Amodei’s message was immediately welcomed by OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, and the head of SpaceXAI, Elon Musk.
