OpenAI launched Pulse, a new ChatGPT function available as a preview for Pro users on mobile. OpenAI's intent seems to be to move the relationship with the user closer to continuous assistance. It does not compete directly with autonomous agents, but is a complement to them: it is a 'predictive' rather than an 'executive' environment. The idea is to move ChatGPT from a reactive role to a proactive one: not just answering questions, but anticipating user needs and goals. Pulse works as a daily asynchronous search: during the night ChatGPT processes memory, history and preferences to propose targeted content the next day, which can range from practical advice for the day to follow-up on long-term projects.
According to Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, this is the first stage of a journey that will lead towards agents capable of acting as digital assistants, modelled on the user's needs and capable of relieving everyday tasks that are today performed manually.
The system is designed to be guided: with a simple tap you can tell ChatGPT what it needs to expand on or what to leave out, progressively improving the quality of updates. Cards are updated every day and remain available only for that day, unless they are saved in a chat or deepened with questions.
In recent months, OpenAI has accelerated towards integrating ChatGPT into more structured workflows: first with Agents, capable of completing complex tasks, now with Pulse, which introduces a daily routine of customised suggestions. The preview is limited to Pro users, with an extension planned to Plus subscribers and, later, to everyone.
