OpenAI has finally launched the store where users can share (and sell/buy) customised versions of the popular chatbot ChatGPT. A launch that had originally been planned for November, but when the company ended up in chaos due to the dismissal (and then reinstatement) of CEO Sam Altman. Hence the postponement. Now, however, the time is ripe.
The new store, which has been launched for paid ChatGPT users, will collect user-created chatbots (clearly those with development capabilities) for a variety of tasks, for example a version of ChatGPT that can teach maths to a child or propose cocktail recipes. The GPT Store will clearly introduce a revenue stream similar to current digital stores (the most common being Apple's App Store and Android's Google Play). Although the economic terms are not yet clear.
Like the current app stores, the GPT Store will also allow users to see the most popular and trending chatbots in a ranking and search them by category. In a blog post announcing the launch, OpenAI stated that 3 million custom chatbots have been created so far, although it was not made clear how many are available at the time of launch.
Also during these hours, OpenAI also announced a new ChatGPT level for companies with smaller teams, starting at USD 25 per user per month.
