OpenAI prepares breakthrough: 'superapp' for ChatGPT ahead of IPO
OpenAI is preparing to file a confidential application for an IPO in the US, although CEO Sam Altman said the company is not focused on timing and will list when it makes sense to do so
OpenAI is planning the biggest redesign of ChatGPT to date, with the aim of turning it into a 'superapp' equipped with programming tools and artificial intelligence agents to increase revenues with a view to a possible stock market listing. The Financial Times writes this.
The changes are part of a wider reorganisation of OpenAI, with the aim of giving greater visibility and resources to Codex, the programming product. The overhaul is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks, initially in the form of updates to the ChatGPT website and mobile apps, according to the FT.
To foster adoption, OpenAI is redesigning the ChatGPT interface with new prompts and features that direct users to scheduling tools, image generation and partner services such as Canva and Booking.com.
Most Codex users are paying customers, while 2 million companies account for about 40 per cent of OpenAI's revenues, according to the FT, which adds that the company expects this share to rise to 50 per cent by the end of the year.
ChatGPT has more than 900 million weekly active users, OpenAI said earlier this year, adding that it had surpassed 50 million consumer subscribers.
