An order book with tens of millions of orders and a 50% increase in turnover. This is the balance of the first year of the new course for Troyer, a historic SME specialising in the production and sale of turbines for hydroelectric power plants, after joining the High Technology Industries (HTI) group in February 2023. Troyer's production takes place right next to the HTI group's facilities in Campi di Sotto di Vipiteno.
Troyer's 2023 revenues exceeded 30 million, a growing result that led to the revision of the 2024 budget, with the management of the Sterzing-based company aiming to reach 40 million. Results achieved thanks to the acquisition of a series of international orders. Among the key markets is Nepal, where Troyer supplied, installed and put into production the electromechanical system of the 9.05 MW Super Chepe hydroelectric power plant. Winning this contract led to eight other contracts in the country with a total value of EUR 39 million. Other markets include Brazil, where the company will supply two plants, and Norway, where turbines were first supplied and started up in the Russvik hydroelectric power plant in the north of the country, while a similar plant in the Hjertvatn power plant is currently being completed. Market debut in Georgia, where an order was won to supply turbines in three cascading hydroelectric power plants on the Bakhvistskali River by the end of 2025. An order worth a total of EUR 12 million. In the recent past, the company also produced the largest ball valve, weighing 30 tonnes and two metres high, in its history, which was installed in the Scottish Kilchrenan plant.
In addition to this medium- to long-range international growth, Troyer considers its target markets to be those in the vicinity along the Alpine arc of Italy, the latest being along the Brembo River in Lombardy, Switzerland and Austria. Here, over decades, the SME has constructed and built hundreds of hydroelectric plants, and the total installed capacity is over 790 MW.
"Our increasingly high technology, which has allowed us to conquer an important role in the hydropower market over the course of ninety years, and the recent awareness of being part of an important group such as the High technology industries group, have allowed us to close 2023 with important numbers," say the company's top management, "but above all to look optimistically towards tomorrow. A future in which clean energy will be even more at the centre of the planet's attention and in which Troyer will continue to be one of the reference players in the sector'. The growth in international markets has laid the foundations for the increase in personnel, which in 2023 counted on a staff of 120 people: in 2024 there will be 25 new positions available. Some have already been filled, while the remainder will materialise by the end of the year.
The 2023 turnover of the HTI Group was close to 1.5 billion, of which almost 39 million was invested in research and development. Production, from ski lifts to snow groomers and snowmaking systems, is sold in 89 countries while manufacturing takes place at 20 production sites. The group employs around 4,700 people.
