Orsini: with the Green Deal we risk 70,000 redundancies in the Italian car industry
"The first important step" will be the table on 17 December that can lead to an "Italy plan" for the auto sector, says Minister Adolfo Urso. "I think that then chairman John Elkann will be able to accept the invitation of Parliament by presenting what is the new Stellantis plan in Italy."

'I believe that the exit of Tavares can, for both Stellantis and Elkann, give them the chance to show that they care about the country. Because we have to maintain employment,' emphasised the president of Confindustria, Emanuele Orsini, opening a debate at Atreju on the crisis in the car industry. 'We must maintain employment in the country, that is what we want to do. We will certainly fight for that,' he says after pointing out: 'With the Green Deal we risk 270,000 jobs in Europe, in Italy we have 70,000 jobs at risk in the car industry, an excellence recognised worldwide.
Urso: first an 'Italy plan', then Elkann in Parliament
In the confrontation with Stellantis 'the first important stage' will be the table on 17 December, which may lead to an 'Italy plan' for the auto sector, 'I think that then,' says minister Adolfo Urso, on the sidelines of the debate at Atreju, 'the chairman John Elkann will be able to accept the invitation of Parliament by presenting what is the new plan of Stellantis in Italy'.
"I believe that the first important stage, to show that there is a great new beginning in a spirit of full cooperation between all parties, the government, the regions, the trade unions, and certainly the company, and the companies in the component supply chain, is that of the round table on the 17th," the minister indicated: "If, as I think, at that time it will be possible to enucleate an 'Italy plan', which has important and significant resources invested in research, innovation, platforms, new models, that is, in Italian plants, and at the same time a fully collaborative relationship with the component industry to manage the transition together, I think that then Chairman Elkann will be able to accept the invitation of Parliament by presenting what is the new plan of Stellantis in Italy, also in the light of the decisions that will have to be taken in Europe and therefore of the new necessary European rules." The first crucial deadline in Europe for the automotive sector, the minister reiterated, is the beginning of the year - 'To understand it better: there is a passage that absolutely must be resolved. On 1 January next year, just a few days away, the penalty trap will be triggered', for car manufacturers, linked to the Green Deal targets.
