Orsini: 'Widen the links of the Stability Pact, companies can't cope'
The president of Confindustria spoke on the sidelines of the Leonardo Prize, awarded to Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi
'On the Stability Pact I believe there is no escape, I believe it is mandatory to widen the mesh'. This was said by Confindustria president Emanuele Orsini, speaking on the sidelines of the Leonardo Prize, awarded to Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi.
"Enterprises cannot do it alone"
A matter of necessity for Orsini. 'We cannot think we can do it alone,' he explained, 'businesses today alone cannot do it'. The reference is to the 'statements we are seeing from all over Europe and from all entrepreneurs: they are of a very great concern about energy shocks'.
Still Europe
'I also feel it is short-sighted,' Orsini continued, 'that Europe cannot read this data so quickly. When we see concern about energy shocks in Europe we pretend nothing is happening. It needs to be done soon, but by now unfortunately we are used to it, it is a Europe that does not know what it means soon'.
The stop of Russian gas imports
There are two other issues. The first, also related to Descalzi's presence, is on Russian gas. The Eni CEO has proposed an opening to imports, as the EU has imposed a stop from 2027. 'We must do whatever we can to support European companies'. The second is the Ets: 'Stop the Ets now. We understand that we need to remodel it, but since there is no capacity in Europe to do it soon, we need the stop. We stop, we remodel and then afterwards we will see what the conditions are'.
