Over 10 million presences in 2025, a record in Tuscany

A record season for open-air tourism in Tuscany: in 2025 there will be more than 10 million presences in the region's campsites, tourist villages and resorts. This is what emerges from the findings of Faita FederCamping Toscana, the regional association of open-air tourist accommodation facilities, based on data provided by the Centre for Tourism Studies in Florence. It was a year of consolidation with a qualitative growth, while for 2026 the operators, in light of the bookings received, are optimistic.

The extra-hotel open air offer in Tuscany counts 236 active structures, of which 212 campsites and 24 tourist villages, for an accommodation capacity of over 184 thousand beds. The real driving force was international demand, which registered a +1.2% increase in overnight stays, bringing over 50 thousand additional presences compared to 2024. Italians represent the majority share of guests with 55.4% of total presences, with the foreign market showing the most dynamic growth margins. Although the sector numerically represents only 1.3% of the accommodation facilities, its load capacity is decisive, guaranteeing 31.5% of the total number of beds in Tuscany. Compared to 2024, the offer continued its expansion with the addition of about 660 new beds (+0.4%), confirming the dynamism of investments. For the current year, projections speak of growth between 1.4 and 1.8%, although the context is marked by geopolitical uncertainties and rising fuel prices. The proximity tourism of those who have the possibility of using their own means, with flexible budget management and, above all, the desire for a holiday immersed in nature and sustainable could benefit.

"Tuscany believes a lot in this tourism segment,' said Eugenio Giani, President of the Region of Tuscany. 'This is demonstrated by the data presented with more than 10 million presences in 2025. This is a vital element of the sector that deserves to be supported. The coast remains the strong point, but open-air tourism in the areas of diffuse Tuscany is carving out an increasingly interesting dimension, a vision that fits in perfectly with the characteristics of small villages and less crowded areas'. The majority of operators have developed facilities along the coast, and in recent times they have looked to inland areas with glamping, farms and agritourisms that have equipped themselves with mobile homes.

According to Faita data, arrivals totalled almost 1.7 million (+0.9%), overnight stays just over 10.1 million (+0.7%), while the average stay is similar to a classic holiday week. The sector benefited from an increase in arrivals from abroad (+1.2%) amounting to over 50 thousand more arrivals.

"The 2025 results confirm the strength and attractiveness of open-air tourism in Tuscany, which today accounts for almost one third of the regional accommodation capacity," points out Claudio Galassi, president of Faita Toscana. "The record rating of 69.2 points rewards the quality of the work of our entrepreneurs and a growing international projection, especially in the German and Dutch markets. For 2026, we are looking with cautious optimism, focusing on sustainability, safety, and ties with the territory, continuing to innovate services for an increasingly demanding demand, and with the goal of still exceeding ten million presences'. Perhaps because of its evocative name, perhaps because of the beauty of the area, an area that appeals to families, especially foreign ones, is the "Costa degli Etruschi". There are also several wineries, thermal baths, outdoor activities in nature, and archaeological areas that favour deseasonalisation.
