US: over 51 million early votes cast for the mid-term elections
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - More than 51 million Americans have already voted in the mid-term elections, according to the early voting tracker from the University of Florida Election Lab, compiled by Professor Michael McDonald. Since 2008, McDonald has been publishing statistics on early voting across the United States. The website, which is constantly updated, shows that the number of voters far exceeds the 45.9 million early votes counted at the end of 2022 (+11.7 per cent) in the last mid-term elections. With just a few days to go before the 3 November vote, in-person voting stands at 28 million, compared with the final figure of 20.5 million in 2022. In the states providing data, early voting is dominated by older voters, with those aged over 65 accounting for 44 per cent and young people aged 18 to 25 accounting for 6 per cent, whilst women make up 54 per cent compared with 44 per cent for men. Among party members, 43.4 per cent of early votes came from voters registered as Democrats and 31.7 per cent from Republicans. The figures do not indicate who voters cast their ballots for.
