P101 joins forces with PranaVenture to establish a venture capital hub
The initiative creates an integrated platform, offering expertise across the entire lifecycle of start-ups – A 100 million seed fund is set to be launched
P101 is consolidating its presence in the venture capital market by integrating the expertise of PranaVentures, a firm specialising in seed investments; this has given rise to a diversified Italian investment platform covering all stages of investment, with a critical mass of over 600 million euros already raised to date. Following the transaction, fundraising has already begun for the Prana101 seed fund – the first under the new strategy – with a target of €100 million and an initial closing expected by the end of the year. Also in the pipeline is the launch of P101’s fourth fund, which aims to exceed the €250 million threshold set by its predecessor, P103.
“Joining PranaVentures marks an important step in P101’s growth strategy: we are strengthening our presence in seed capital and laying the foundations for the development of a new venture capital model in Italia, capable of combining scale, expertise and networks to support start-ups throughout their entire development cycle, from the earliest stages right through to international scale-up,” comments Andrea Di Camillo, founder and managing partner of P101. The market needs more robust, specialised operators capable of competing on a European scale, and together with the PranaVentures team we will work to build a more comprehensive, institutional and competitive asset management company, with the ambition of exceeding €1 billion in assets under management over time. “A transaction of this kind is the first of its kind in Italy within the venture capital sector. The rationale is to position ourselves in the market no longer as a single vehicle, but as an operator capable of scaling up and offering a broader range of services.”
The seed strategy, in particular, will be led by Lisa Di Sevo, founder of PranaVentures, and Guido Giordano, a partner, building on the work begun in 2021.
“Prana101 was founded at a time of disruption, both in terms of technology and within the seed funding segment. AI has redefined the costs and methods of business development, and in this new context, rapid decision-making and operational efficiency are just as crucial as capital,” explains Di Sevo. The decision to launch PranaVentures, he adds, stems from “the realisation that we need to be more competitive on a mass scale”. It also comes at a time when the Italian market is maturing, as it “is shifting towards late-stage and growth funding, at the expense of seed funding, within an increasingly fragmented landscape. “The partnership with P101 will allow us greater vertical integration.” The new Prana101 vehicle, in particular, will be dedicated to pre-seed and seed investments, supporting Italian and European tech start-ups, with an investment thesis focused on the major changes enabled by technology and artificial intelligence in business models, digital infrastructure and services for individuals and businesses. With Prana101, the capital raised through the nine vehicles managed by the group could therefore rise to 700 million, with the group’s portfolio currently comprising more than 80 active companies, which are projected to generate approximately 2 billion euros in aggregate revenue by 2025 and employ a total of more than 5,500 people.
The P101 platform is intended to grow further in the future. “There is scope in the debt market, in technology transfer, and in internationalisation,” explains Di Camillo, “ but for now we are focusing on this first step, with the launch of fundraising for the new seed fund and, soon, also for P101’s fourth fund, which will exceed the 250 million raised by the previous fund.”
