Pakistan: 29 Taliban militants killed in an attack on the border with Afghanistan
Pakistan has stepped up cross-border operations against militant groups which, it claims, are operating from Afghanistan, following a resurgence in attacks and a deterioration in relations with Kabul
Pakistan has stated that it carried out a ground military operation and ‘precision’ air strikes along the border with Afghanistan, killing 29 militants in response to previous deadly attacks.
Among them, four militants were killed during a ground operation in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said in a post on X. Several others were injured, he added.
Pakistani forces then carried out a ‘precision operation against terrorist camps and hideouts’ in the border regions of Paktia, Paktika and Kunar, killing 25. Tarar identified the militants as belonging to Taliban groups such as Jamaat ul Ahrar and Fitna al-Khwarij.
He concluded that ‘large quantities of weapons and ammunition’ stored in camps and hideouts had also been destroyed.
The attacks took place between Sunday and Monday morning, Mr Tarar said, emphasising that the safety of Pakistani citizens remains the government’s top priority, as it is committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region. In another post, a spokesperson for the Taliban government in Kabul confirmed the Pakistani military attacks.
