More medals arrive for Italy at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Carlotta Gilli took silver in the women's 400 metres freestyle S13 at the Paris Paralympics. The Italian was beaten only by the American Chambers, who took gold. For Gilli it is the third medal at these Paralympics, after the gold in the 100 butterfly, on Thursday, and the bronze in the 100 backstroke, yesterday. The 23-year-old from Turin confirmed her result from three years ago in Tokyo. It was the first medal of the day, the fourteenth for the Italian expedition to Paris, the twelfth in swimming. Carlotta Gilli finished in 4.31.83 behind the American Olivia Chambers, gold in 4.29.93. Bronze went to Ukrainian athlete Anna Stetsenko (4:36.17).
"I am happy. I confirmed the Tokyo medal, three years have passed, and there are many new opponents who are going very strongly, including today's winner." Thus Gilli. "I knew the American was passing very strongly, unlike the other one who usually passes slower and then comes back stronger. Here the race is a bit long, so everyone adopts their own tactics. I tried to do a bit of my own race, letting the American get carried away at the start and then trying to protect myself a bit from the other one catching up. - added the Italian in the mixed zone - I am satisfied, third day of competition and my third medal. Tomorrow I have a rest day and then two more competitions'.
Francesco Bettella took silver in the 50m backstroke S1 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. It's a double for the Italian, who won bronze in the 100 backstroke S1 on Thursday.
