PAW Patrol, SpongeBob, Patrick, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo or the Ninja Turtles and Dora. These are the Paramount characters that from today will populate Nickelodeon Land, the entirely themed area open to the public inside Mirabilandia, a large amusement park in Romagna owned by the Parques Reunidos group, a Spanish multinational that manages about 50 amusement parks in Europe, North America and Australia with a total turnover of about 830 million euro in 2023, according to the latest available balance sheet, and an Ebitda of 233.4 million (+3.8%) on the previous year.
Following the agreement between Paramount and Parques Reunidos, Italy is the first country to host an area with the US giant's popular characters for children. "The new Nickelodeon area at Mirabilandia represents a further enrichment of the proposal for families with children," says Patricio Ramos, Chief Transformation Officer of Parques Reunidos. "Together with the one in Germany, they are the first of a long series of investments aimed at making this long-term agreement a reality. Another investment was made in Germany, in the Movie Park, with the maze of A Quiet Place, another Paramount franchise.
After an investment of 20 million in Mirabilandia, the Nickelodeon Land was inaugurated. It covers an area of 25,000 square metres themed with 10 attractions for children, 3 restaurants - refreshment outlets, 2 areas where one can meet the Paramount characters and a shop for merchandising.
"We are extremely proud and excited to bring the Nickelodeon universe to the heart of Italy, in an iconic park like Mirabilandia," says Marie Marks, Senior Vice President Global Experiences at Paramount. "This collaboration with Mirabilandia represents a fundamental step in our international strategy and strengthens our bond with Italian audiences. Together we are creating something unique that will make the Italian tourism offer even more attractive and competitive'.
New attractions for the little ones include the Ninja Turtles-inspired Cowabunga Carts family rollercoaster at SpongeBob's pineapple house, the largest in Europe, as well as PAW Patrol To The Rescue: another coaster for a rescue mission, Dora's Train Adventure for an immersive jungle ride, the aquatic log ride at Rubble's Rapids and Adventure Bay Carousel: a relaxing bay ride with the PAW Patrol puppies. There are also themed shows and puppet encounters. "Cutting the ribbon of a new area or attraction is always an exciting moment," says Sabrina Mangia, Managing Director of Mirabilandia, "because it represents the realisation of the efforts of the entire Mirabilandia team. Nickelodeon Land is not only an exclusive novelty for our visitors, but also a celebration of our partnership with a global player like Paramount. A collaboration that we are certain will bring benefits to Mirabilandia, to Romagna and to the entire Italian system, strengthening Italy's position as a tourist destination of excellence".
