IOC president Thomas Bach is back on the case of Algerian hyperandrogynous boxer Imane Khelif after a meeting in Paris with premier Giorgia Meloni and Coni president Giovanni Malagò. "We agreed to stay in touch to share the same scientific background and make the situation more understandable because Khelif is a woman and has been competing for six years at the international level," said Bach, who spoke of a "positive" meeting after yesterday's criticism of the Olympic Committee by the head of the Italian government. "We share views and we agree on clarifying and improving the scientific background we talked about," he added.

A note from Palazzo Chigi states that the talks focused on 'an exchange of views on the progress of the Games and the state of preparation for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics'. During the face-to-face meeting, the case of the athlete Imane Khelif and the issue of rules to ensure fairness in the competitions were also discussed. Meloni and the head of the IOC agreed that the government and the International Olympic Committee will remain in contact to assess how to deal with the issue in the future.
